Philadelphia Bar Association Receives National Solo and Small Firm Project Award

The Philadelphia Bar Association will receive the 2009 Solo and Small Firm Project Award from the American Bar Association for its efforts to support the work of solo practitioners and small firm lawyers through its Law Practice Management Division .
The Philadelphia Bar Association will receive this award from the General Practice, Solo and Small Firm Division of the American Bar Association during its Division Council Meeting on Saturday, August 1 as part of the ABA Annual Meeting .
Recognizing that attorneys are taught skills to practice law but do not necessarily know how to build a successful practice, the Philadelphia Bar Association created the Law Practice Management Division in 2006 to help its members develop and improve the business side of their law practices .
The focus quickly turned to small and solo firms, since most large firms have in-house staff to handle business management .
The LPM Division provides one-stop shopping for members that includes resources for business and financial management, technology, marketing and vendor/consultant relationships .
Highlights of the program include: A Vendor/Consultant Referral Program that interviews, vets and then matches vendors or consultants with Bar Association members requiring assistance in various practice areas such as accounting and bookkeeping, client development, business coaching, information technology, network, web support, and more .
Matches include a free one-hour consultation .
Although vendors are vetted by a committee, members can make referrals or visit the Bar Association's web page: www.philadelphiabar.org/page/LawPracticeManagementDivision .
A range of continuing legal education programs throughout the year on topics relevant to solo and small-firm lawyers .
A range of committees including Business Management, Financial Management, Marketing and Technology that address key issues and offer diverse programming .
Founded in 1802, the 13,000-member Philadelphia Bar Association is America's first chartered metropolitan bar association and the largest in Pennsylvania .
Attorneys, judges and politicians look to the Philadelphia Bar Association for guidance on controversial legal issues and as an organized meeting ground for professional support and information sharing .
The Philadelphia Bar Association also provides help and general information on legal issues to members of the general public .
